- Rockefeller (PK-5) Winner earns $500 to represent CalChess in the 4th Annual John D. Rockefeller III National Tournament of Elementary School State Champions | US Chess.org
- Barber (6-8) Winner earns $500 to represent CalChess in the 13th Annual Dewain Barber National Tournament of Middle School State Champions | US Chess.org
- Denker (9-12) Winner earns $500 to represent CalChess in the 39th Annual Gm Arnold Denker National Tournament Of High School State Champions | US Chess.org
- Players with 4 points or higher earn a free entry to next year’s qualifiers (regardless of their rating).
- The honor and the prize money will go to the next placeholder if the Winner cannot represent CalChess on July 29-August 1, 2023, at DeVos Place, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
- PreQualifiers
- Any player with 3 points or more prequalifies for next year’s qualifiers with a free entry.
- Trophies to all players with a winning record.

- What are Rockefeller, Barber, and Denker Qualifiers?
- Every state has a representative in the National Tournament of Champions held with the US Open. These Qualifiers determine the CalChess Representative for these tournaments for each grade range. Specifically:
- Rockefeller is for K-5th Grade
- Barber for 6-8th Grade
- Denkers for 9-12th Grade
- What are Rockefeller, Barber, and Denker PreQualifiers?
- The Qualifier rating limits are necessary to invite eligible competitors to limit the field to those up to the National Tournament of Champions competition. However, these rating limits can exclude and discourage those not within the rating range.
- The PreQualifiers provide a path for the next generation of Champions with the following:
- An opportunity to prequalify for next year’s Qualifiers (with a free entry).
- Motivation to improve and compete in the 2024 National Tournament of Champions.
- The PreQualifiersare inspired by development leagues in professional sports.
- Why are the grade ranges PreQualifers and Qualifiers different?
- The PreQualifier grade ranges match with the 2024 Qualifiers.
- Accordingly, Rockefeller is for K-5th Grade
- Rockefeller = K-5th Grade in 2024 ⇒⇒⇒ PreK-4th Grade in 2023
- Barber = 6-8th Grade in 2024 ⇒⇒⇒ 5-7th Grade in 2023
- Denkers = 9-12th Grade in 2024 ⇒⇒⇒ 8-11th Grade in 2023
