Salman Azhar is a prolific organizer, an active tournament player, and a coach. He specializes in management consulting and also coaches Silicon Valley executives in business strategy using chess principles

Salman's passion for chess has led him to his first non-profit, BayAreaChess. Previously, he has founded or co-founded DecisionStreet, SoftWeb, Swans, The Developers, and Amzone. Salman is a technology professional in his other life.
In 2003, Salman was conferred Duke University’s Honored Alumnus Award for his professional achievements. During his 20+ year career, he has directed multinational software teams to develop state-of-the-art software systems, including five major products still in the market. His former clients include HP, ADP, i2, Western Digital, Oracle, Agilent, and others.
Salman has held full-time faculty positions in computer science at Duke and Wake Forest, and is an adjunct at Santa Clara.
He earned an M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science from Duke, and a BS from Wake Forest with a 4.0 GPA. His doctoral dissertation was on optimizing decisions under uncertainty.
