Summer Camp Santa Clara: July 7 - August 1 (1-4 weeks options)
Motivation: Language Arts focus on creative writing, cultural enrichment, and linguistics. Using the "fun first" technique, one of the courses will use Harry Potter as an example and another will discuss variants of chess from different cultures.

Example 1 : Dr. Schiller will present a version of his Secrets of English course. This course is designed to boost both understanding and self-confidence, by teaching kids simple explanations for the seeming complexities of English. All aspects of language are presented using simple rules that actually work (no hundreds of exceptions). This method was developed by scholars at the University of Chicago and in Dr. Schiller’s version is designed to be a lot of fun, too, using examples from literature they are familiar with. The techniques will be of good use in future English classes because the children will know what is going on “under the hood”.

Example 2 : Ms. Kwan will introduce the children to Chaturanga (Indian Chess Variant) XiangQi (Chinese), Shogi (Japanese), and Makruk (Thailand/Cambodia). Along with introducing these games, she will also talk about the geography and culture of various countries.
