      1. Online Registration closes at 11:59p on the day before the first game.
      2. Onsite Registration closes at 20 minutes before the first game.
      3. Time Controls:
        1. 1000+ All rounds are G/90 +30 except 2-day Rounds 1-3 are G/65 d5
        2. u1000 All rounds are G/25 d5
      4. Play-up rules:
        1. 1000+
            - Players will be placed into sections based on their published USChess rating.
            - A player may play up one higher section, double play up is not allowed.
            - Players under 1000 must pay the play-up fee to play in section E.
        2. u1000
            - A player may play up one higher section, double play up is not allowed.
    • ½-point Byes

      1. US Class Championship: Half-point are available for any round with the following rules:
        1. Maximum of three ½-point byes for 1000+ sections and two ½-point byes for u1000 sections
        2. All byes must be requested at least 1 hour before that round's scheduled start
        3. After Round 3 starts, any changes to byes in the last two rounds will result in the player donating any earned prizes to BAC.
      2. Blitz:
        1. Maximum of two ½-point byes
        2. All byes must be requested before the start of Round 1
        3. After Round 3 starts, any changes to byes will result in the player donating any earned prizes to BAC.




      Scholastic Side Events

      The following events extend your fun and improvement; all of them are G/25 d5
      1. Scholastic Quads (3 games)
      2. Scholastic Swiss (4 games)

      1. The 2023 US Class National Championship Day will be at Sonesta LAX on 5985 W Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
      2. We will use Sep 2023 Supplement to place players accurately.
      3. The 3-day and 2-day schedules will merge in Round 4.
      4. The 2-day schedule’s first 3 rounds will be G/65 d5.
    • What's Expected?

      1. Come as you are! We welcome all players regardless of their rating and playing level.
      2. US Chess membership (USCF) is required; if you're not a current member, you must renew/signup with your tournament registration at BayAreaChess.com so we can process and reconcile your entry.
      3. Unrated winners: Max $300 (except in the top section)
      4. We may adjust round times if needed (but it is unlikely).
